YWCA of White Plains and Central Westchester, White Plains, NY

YWCA of White Plains and Central Westchester, White Plains, New York (housing, renovation) The YWCA has owned and operated this facility since 1967. Connected at ground level, the 1913 Kennedy Duncan Residence and 1976 Acheson Wallace Hall combine to provide 193 single room occupancy units for adult women of low and moderately low income. The Y offers supportive services including case management, health and wellness programming, free clothing closet and emergency food pantry. STA involvement started with a Conditions Assessment to help the client set priorities and funding targets. Construction documents for full rehabilitation of both buildings and site plan improvements followed and include eight new units, renovated offices and public spaces, insulated glass windows, blown-in dense insulation, energy efficient mechanical system and lighting, communal kitchen upgrades, and a landscaped terrace courtyard. Improvement and restoration of exterior surfaces preserve the distinct characters of the two buildings.
